Brief Description

SEH is seeking a detail oriented Senior Technician to be located in our St. Paul, MN - La Crosse, WI or Chippewa Falls, WI office!

This position will work directly with engineers in our Environmental, Water Resources and Geotechnical Practice Centers on multi-discipline design and planning for solid and hazardous waste landfills, levees and floodwalls, storm water and sanitary sewer conveyance and general site grading. Tasks include design, drafting, coordinating workload with engineering staff, interacting with engineering staff, and with the design team. This position will primarily work with AutoCAD/Civil 3D drafting and design on projects, with occasional assignment in the field for data collection or construction activities. We offer a collaborative, multi-discipline work environment to develop innovative, and cost effective designs for our clients.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Preparation and development of layouts, drawings, and schematics for solid waste landfills/transfer stations, levees, floodwalls, storm water and sanitary sewer facilities.
  • Perform quality control reviews of drawings and quantities for projects.
  • Assisting in preparing drawings and schematics for project reports and recommendations for approval by the Professional Engineer or Project Manager.
  • Assisting Professional Engineer/Project Manager in project scoping, task hour budgets, schedules, and fee proposals.
  • Learning and keeping abreast of the latest SEH and client design standards and procedures.
  • Conforming to SEH standards of quality, both technical and graphic.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions with only general direction, and to manage own work on a wide variety of projects.
  • Ability to communicate well with coworkers and work effectively in an empowered team environment, coordinating with other disciplines and engineers across the company.
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field
  • Minimum of ten (10) years previous experience in Civil Engineering Technology or related field
  • Must be proficient in AutoCAD/Civil 3D
  • Strong mathematical skills and proficiency with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Ability to turn plans and ideas into technical drawings
  • Good technical and organizational skills with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts both visually and verbally essential
  • Experience implementing and maintaining project directories and file sharing protocol with sub-consultants.
  • Experience leading and completing production for civil, sewer/utility, earthwork grading plans, establishing alignments and calculating quantities
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds while walking through rough terrain
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License and be able to provide own means of reliable transportation
  • Ability to travel as needed for team meetings, client consultations, on-site inspections/visits, etc.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous training and/or experience with Revit and/or other design software
  • Field/construction experience, construction observation, survey and/or GIS applications
  • Experience with design using state and federal solid waste regulations
