Through this program, Oceaneering is seeking motivated Nondestructive Testing Interns to work and learn in our Marine Services Division (MSD) located in Chesapeake, VA. The successful candidate will participate in a practical, systematic program of on-the-job training and related instruction to develop existing military technical experience. Internship will be 7 - 24 weeks long and can only commence within 180 days before leaving active-duty service.

6 Naval Vessel Technology Develop a foundational understanding of naval vessels with a focus on submarines and/or surface combat ships. 40
7 NDT Techniques Practical Application Engage in hands-on learning by performing Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques under the guidance of certified NDT Level I, II, or III professionals. 40

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Fulfill all eligibility criteria specified in relevant Department of Defense (DoD) and service instructions.
  • Possess official Temporary Additional Duty (TAD) or Temporary Duty (TDY) orders to Oceaneering International, Inc. for the internship duration.
  • Demonstrate a minimum of 4 years of experience as a Navy Hull Technician (HT) with a preference for NEC codes 4942, 4943, 4944, 4946. However, this requirement may be substituted with relevant experience in other military occupations, military services, and/or civilian Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Display a keen eye for detail and a commitment to achieving results.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Hold a Secret/Confidential security clearance issued by the DoD.
Additional Information

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is considered SHOP/OUTDOORS which is characterized as follows.

  • Primarily outdoors during the day.
  • Frequently working on or near moving equipment and vibrating equipment.
  • Humidity is frequently above 90%.
  • Noise is over 85 decibels.
  • Light is intense/glare.
  • Occasional exposure to open fire/flames/sparks.
  • Frequent exposure to airborne dust, fumes, and gases.
  • Work surface is stable.
  • Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32 F degrees) temperatures.

OCCASIONAL

  • Lift 20-50 pounds.
  • Work in confined spaces, kneel, jump, run, work while lying on stomach/back, crawl, and use repetitive movements of the arms and hands.
  • Identify color differences.
  • Wear PPE for skin protection.


FREQUENT

  • Lift 10-25 pounds.
  • Climb stairs/ladders, stand, balance, stoop, squat, reach, and lift/carry objects.
  • Twist body, sit with back supported, head forward/flexed, head tilted/rotated, and work with arms extended overhead.
  • Operate a motor vehicle.


CONSTANT

  • Lift up to 10 pounds.
  • Wear PPE protection for body, vision, and hearing protection.
